Single-Wire Connectivity Pioneer GMK Admitted to Silicon Catalyst

First Korean Company to join Silicon Valley-based incubator is set to extend the lifetime of

100-Year-Old Audio Jack Standard

Silicon Valley, CA, October 24, 2016 – Silicon Catalyst, the world’s leading incubator focused on silicon solutions, announces the admittance of GMK, a fabless semiconductor startup company based in Korea.

Today, GMK announced the world‘s first single-wire connectivity chipset solution for smart devices, the GPCI (GMK Power Communication interface) (see: www.GMKAY.com). This chipset solution enables a 3.5mm audio-jack to perform high power transfer and digital data communication similar to USB, while providing legacy analog audio compatibility. GMK’s low-cost, low-power GPCI solution promises to extend the lifetime of the 100 year old 3.5 mm audio jack standard. Initial applications are targeted to powering Active Noise Cancelling earphones through the audio jack.`

Silicon Catalyst CEO Rick Lazansky said, “After a thorough vetting process, we could not be happier to welcome GMK to join the growing group of promising semiconductor startups in our incubator. As we expand our global footprint, GMK, our first Korean portfolio company, will help reinvigorate the semiconductor start up environment there, by establishing a bridge to Silicon Valley. While some are taking contrarian steps by eliminating the audio jack in their phones, GMK’s innovations enable smart phone providers to extend the usefulness of the proven audio jack and to continue its lifeline indefinitely.”

“As a Korean company, we identified ties into Silicon Valley and the American market as critical to our success.” said James Hwang, CEO of GMK. “Silicon Catalyst has the exact connections that we need, including expertise, market knowledge, and deep ties to the Angel & Venture Capital community in Silicon Valley. We are honored by our admittance into the Silicon Catalyst incubator.”

GMK is currently actively promoting GPCI to Android phone OEM/ODM manufacturers and active accessory manufacturers with a fully working prototype consisting of a Nexus phone and ANC earphone. Upgrading devices with 3.5mm audio jacks to use GNA101 and GNA102 requires only a few weeks of integration by OEM manufacturers.
